What is IV and EV in Pokemon and how can I figure out both of them?

I have looked at many guides, but they are so confusing. Can anyone give me simple instructions to figuring out both of these?What is IV and EV in Pokemon and how can I figure out both of them?

Well IV's (Individuals values) are the stats that pokemon are born with, the best is 31 and the worst is 0 you can download the IV caluator on the net.


EV ( Effort Value) are the effort of killing a certain weak pokemon until he goes to the next LV, EG Kill 40 magikarp and you go to the next LV might get you 23 stats for speed (with the helped of the power item where you buy with bp in battle tower)

Like Evs are used to gain better stats right so heres an example





Say you battled 4 haunters. A haunter gives +2 spc.atk every time you fight it. After this you use this equation





(Number of Pokemon Fought) X (stat gained) = EV gained


THis would mean it is


(4)x(2)=8 meaning u gained 8 EVS
