What do you do to figure out how tall your child will be when they get older?

My mother-in-law said that there is something that you do to figure how tall you child is going to be.What do you do to figure out how tall your child will be when they get older?
Rule of thumb... a little girl is half her adult height at age 3, a little boy is half his adult height at age 3 1/2.

This is true for the most part. My kids were! What do you do to figure out how tall your child will be when they get older?
Hi there ... check out this link: http://www.csgnetwork.com/heightpredictc鈥?/a>
Folk wisdom says to measure the chid at age two and double. (Three feet hish at rwo, 6 feet as an adult, etc.) The site below looks better. Give it a try.
Genetics control how tall a person gets. Since growth is really an unknown in science right now, you can never be positive on a prediction you make. Myself, I was 22 inches long, and 6lbs11oz. I am now 25 and 5ft9, 130lbs, and 10 and a half shoe.

My dad is 6 ft. and wears size 8 shoe.

It really varies from person to person, it might be what you eat or your fitness growing up.

But I say look at the childs grandparents and average the heights together use granddads height for a boy and grandmas for a girl. Thats normally within a couple of inches give or take.
there is no formula for that..... time sweety, time.
You can kind of judge buy how big they were when they were born.
take the child at 2 yrs and double it and divide by 2
Only God knows. The ped. said that my daughter would be six feet tall. She is only 5'8''. However her feet look like their 6ft. Not really - size 12.
don't know
I think you can just base it on the average height of the family members that is a safe bet.
Seriously, my family has been doing this for years! On the child's second birthday, take an accurate measurement. (Of course, my family did this on my grandmother's dining room door post so that we could all be compared over the years.) Take the measurement and multiply by two. That should give you a fairly accurate guesstimate of how tall the child will be when grown.
When a child is 2, measure him or her, and double that. It's pretty accurate.
My mother did something like that when i was a kid, i should be 6'4';. i'm 5'6'; if that. don't try to guess, i've been waiting my whole life to be a tall guy instead of the short quy. just wait to see how tall he/she will be.
When the child turns 2, measure their height and double it.
yes..hers how to do it and you will get the accurate heigh when the child is 18 years, 3 months and 5 days old.

Step 1. Calculate mothers weioght in pounds.

Step 2. divide the mothers weight in ppounds by the weight in kgs she was when she was a kid, that is exactly 2 years and 1 day old.

Step 3. Multipy this figure by the number of times you felt like having a child and subtract it by the number of times you felt like asking this question.

Final Step: for heavens sake...just dont think too much....let the child grow..she might turn to be a short and sweet person or a tall and trendy....just wait and see....

end of the day..its growth and surrounding that decide
One estimate is a child's height by age 2, doubled.
Two Years Times Two Method, which uses simple linear regressions and doubles a child's height at age two years
my mother told me that supposedly you can tell how tall your child will be when they are 2 yrs old you just double how tall they are then--but if that was true my daughter would be like 7 feet tall!!!!
Measure their height at 3 years old and double that and that's how tall they will be when they grow up. Worked with my kids and i have 4.
You wait 18 yrs and....WA-LA! :D
Take your weight and height and your child's father weight and height, average out the height then average out the weight. That should be roughly how tall your child is and also how much he/she should weigh. Try to figure in environmental factors though, like fast food, etc. for the weight.
you dont, you just love them whatever there size
wait till he is 18 after that he will remain almost same with age
only one man would know that, and thats our havenly father.
you can take x-rays of the fingers. the ends of the bones have growth plates, where new bone grows from. although you will not be able to get an exact height, you will be able to tell by the size of the growth plate (thickness) how much is left to grow. a little or a lot.
It is not possible to tell for certain. I've seen little kids grow up to be big and big kids grow up to be little and that's just in my lifetime
Wait.
Hmmmm, I wonder why this would even matter.

Anyways, I think all the answers so far are good except that you have to factor in health and whether a child gets the proper nutrition, exercise and love to grow!

';Milk does the body good!'; is a quote that rings true. You need calcium for bones to grow.
Well, it depends on how tall the parents may be. This can be clarified through studing genes. The family lineage determines the heights in the whole family ie if you are from a family containing short people then there is a possibility that you may be short, viceversa
how big there feet are. and the height of the mothers grand-father. plus or minus 3 inches.
whatever the others said well not really impressed, the thing is that it cant b figured out atall,i hav seen frends whose parents r 6+ an they r midgets in comparision.its all in GENES.an u dont know during the genetic recombination which gene combines to what, being a student of medicine,i can tell is,if the recessive genes pair up u r short an if the dominant genes pair up u r a giant an if u have a mixed of both u r medium in height.
