How are grackle and figure 8 nosebands different, besided apparence?

The grackle is set lower than the figure 8. So there has to be a difference? What is it? How are grackle and figure 8 nosebands different, besided apparence?
I think they're pretty much the same thing, just different names for it depending on where you're from. You can set the grackle up higher or the figure-8 lower and they're the same as far as I can tell. How are grackle and figure 8 nosebands different, besided apparence?
They are just different words for the same thing.

Could you maybe post some pictures as to what you are referring to? Maybe that would clear up some confusion.

Changing the adjustment of a piece of tack doesn't change what it is. You can take a cavesson noseband and set it higher or lower, but it's still a cavesson.
Figure-eight: Also called a crossed, Grackle or Mexican noseband, this noseband crosses from the top of the ckeekbone on one side, over the nose to the chin groove on the other side, under the horse's chin, and back up to the opposite cheekbone. It is used to remind the horse to keep its mouth closed and prevents him from crossing his jaw, and its design provides more expansion of the nostrils, which is preferable for horses performing work involving galloping (eventing, polo, racing), and has always been popular in show jumping. Many people believe that this type of noseband is more comfortable than a flash.
You say potato I say potatoe...you say headcollar I say halter...........if you would *google magic* as you suggest, you would see that they are the same just different terminology from Australia to US.

Greg- I believe this came up because of the question that you answered with the martingale and ';grackle'; and gag bit. That question had a link.
