Not just reading the label.
I mean how do the people that make and sell the food item calculate the amount of calories. How do people figure out how many calories are in an amount of food?
Scientits calculate it, hahaa.
Im not quite sure how though.
Sorry I couldnt helpp.
:]How do people figure out how many calories are in an amount of food?
They use a specialized machine called a bomb calorimeter, which gauges the amount of calories in a food by how many degrees the temperature of the water in the calorimeter is raised (a ';calorie'; or kcal, is a unit of energy... it takes 1 kcal to raise the temperature of 1g of water by 1 degree Celsius.)
Therefore, if the temperature of the water in the calorimeter is raised by 50 degree Celsius, then the matter burned off in the machine contained 50 calories. If you determine that 1g of a specific food has a certain amount of calories, you can add all the parts of a food together to determine how many calories the overall serving has.
it is a scientific formula of the measure of the amount of energy in a certain food. like protein and carbs have a certain amount of calories in a certain amt of that food. fat has more.
Protein contains 4 calories per gram
Carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram
Fat contains 9 calories per gram
they just measure it all out and add it all up.
They know all the kcals per mass of all their raw ingredients. Once the final product is put together they simply add up all the kcals per gram of finished product.
