It is called a percentage equation. Take measurement of carbon dioxide and divide it by the total measurement of gases to get the percentage of carbon dioxide in the air.
I believe the measurements are done with a gas chromatograph, although I am not sure. Perhaps if you asked this question in the Chemistry section of Yahoo! Answers, someone who is familiar with this technique could tell you.
I am not going to explain how greenhouse gases keep our planet warm, or how excessive greenhouse gases contribute to global warming; there is a forum in the Science section of Yahoo! Answers that deals specifically with Global Warming.
We will know ';exactly when going green will have actually slowed global warming'; when climate scientists tell us it has slowed global warming. I am sorry, but the role of Science is no to go around till everyone is ';convinced scientifically!!'; Science is imprecise, and a ';70% chance that global warming has slowed'; might be the best that Science can do.
