How do you figure out what percent one number is of another?

How do you figure what percent increase $2,345 is over $2,000?

How do you figure what percent $400 is of $3,789?How do you figure out what percent one number is of another?
Percent means per 100!

you have x and want to calculate the perceptual increase for y.

x/100%=1% of x

y is increased with (y-x)/(1% of x)=(y-x)/(x/100)

=(y-x/x)100%

Get that and you are able to calculate all types of percent questionsHow do you figure out what percent one number is of another?
You need to consider which figure is your whole number i.e your 100%. In example 1) $2000 is your 100% and you are looking for what % increase $2345 is. so...

100/2000 = 0.05

0.05 * 2345 = 117.25 Thus, 拢2345 represents 117.25% of $2000 or rather an 17.25% increase.

As for the 2nd example - the 3789 is the 100% - same principle applies.
divide the greater by the lesser and divide 100 by the answer
2,000 / 2,345

5.79 % increase

$3,789 / 400

9.47 % of $3,789
let it be x

the equation

2000(1+x/100)=2345

2000(100+x)/100=2345

2000(100+x)=234500

200000+2000x=234500

2000x=34500

x=34500/2000

=17.25%

2.let 400/3789 *100=x

x=40000/3789=10.56%
basically when you want to find percentage..

subtract the two numbers and divide it by the number from which you are trying to find the percentage.

like A-B/B

A)

Increase in $2,345 is over $2,000

2345-2000/2000 = 345/2000 = 0.1725

for percentage multiply by 100

thus, 0.1725 * 100 = 17.25 % increase

B)

400/3789 = 10.56 /100

thus 400 is 10.56% of 3789
First, focus on the $2000, as this is the quantity that you will be relating your answer to. Now how much over $2000 is $2345? It is $345 over. Now you say ';what percentage of $2000 is $345?'; and the answer will be the percentage increase. To see what's going on, imagine your question is 'what percentage increase $2000 is, over $2000?'. Obviously, there is no increase, so the answer to that would be a 0% increase. Now imagine your question is 'what percentage increase $4000 is, over $2000?'. Here, there is an increase of $2000, which is a 100% increase, because the initial $2000 can be regarded as 100% of all that you started with. The value of $345 lies between these two questions, that is, it lies between $0 increase (0%) and $2000 increase (100%). It lies at the fractional value of 345 / 2000, and to turn this into a percentage, you multiply it by 100. The result of (345 / 2000) * 100 is 17.25%. So the percentage increase is 17.25%.

A formula for this type of question is :

Percentage Increase = 100(B - A) / A

where A is the smaller of the two numbers.

For the second question, think $0 is 0% of $3789, and $3789 is 100% of $3789, so $400 is the fractional part 400 / 3789. Change this to a percentage by multiplying by 100. The answer is 10.56% to 2 decimal places.

A formula for this type of question is :

Percentage = 100A / B

where A represents the 400 and B the 3789 in your question.
