How do I figure out what type of fireplace I have?

I bought a house with a fireplace and am trying to figure out how to use it. It has a key on the side which says ';log lighter valve'; with the ability to turn a ';blue flame'; on or off. How do I use the log lighter valve and what type of fuel should I be using? How do I figure out what type of fireplace I have?
You can use real wood or fireplace logs in it. You light the gas to get the fire started and then turn it off. Just be sure you have the flue open!How do I figure out what type of fireplace I have?
I have a gas lighter in my fireplace and have been using it for 20 years! I switched to fireplace logs cause they burn cleaner and easier to vacume the mess up with a wet-dry vac. I use at least 3 logs to get a nice fire going. Report Abuse

ITs a wood burning fireplace and the lighter is to start the wood burning and u turn it off after you get a good flame going
